There are many ways you can learn more about Grinnell while you're on campus. Whenever possible, we allow students the flexibility to customize their visits to best suit their needs. We provide you the available options (displayed below) and allow you to craft your schedule. Center for Careers, Life, and Service Presentation (Monday & Friday, Mid-March through Mid-November)

The Center for Careers, Life, and Service works to empower students and alumni to live, learn, and work with meaning and purpose. A CLS staff member will present the variety of programs offered and answer your questions about what students can do to take advantage of all the opportunities and experiences that will help them determine their path through life. This session is open to students and/or guests and will last 30 minutes.

Meals in the Marketplace Dining Hall

Enjoy a complimentary meal for you and your guests from the Marketplace Dining Hall or the Spencer Grill. Be sure to pick up your meal tickets at the reception desk in the Office of Admission before proceeding to lunch.

On select dates throughout the summer, you're invited to enjoy a catered lunch with current students who have remained on campus to complete a research project. Each summer, students complete research projects across the divisions of the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Sciences. Come enjoy a casual lunch with our students and learn what they're up to! Admission staff will walk families from the Admission and Student Financial Services building to the location of these lunches. Lunches will take places from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. on the following dates:

Interviews (optional)

Interviews begin in the Office of Admission and generally last 20-30 minutes. Be sure the interview time you select does not overlap with other components of your visit. Interviews are conducted by trained seniors at the College or by admission counselors. Interviews are a two-way street: we get to learn more about you and you get to learn more about us in a one-on-one setting. Please note that interviews are completely optional and are not required for admission, but if you choose to have one, it will be included as part of our evaluation of your application.

When will I be eligible to interview?:
- Prospective first-year students: beginning the summer after your junior year through early December of your senior year
- Prospective transfer students: no earlier than your second-to-last college term. If you are interested in an on-campus interview but unable to register for one, please contact Christian Morris to inquire about available interview opportunities.

One-on-One Financial Aid Meetings (optional)

Class Visits

High school seniors only are invited to sit in on faculty-approved 100-, 200-, and 300-level courses during their visit to campus. Please check in at the Office of Admission at least 30 minutes prior to the class time you select below. Upon checking in, you will be able to choose a class from a roster. Note that class visits are only available during the academic year when classes are in session, excluding the mid-semester, fall break, and final exam weeks. Most classes last 50 minutes.

If a class visit is a high-priority part of your campus visit, we encourage you to visit on a Monday, Wednesday, or Friday as those days of the week offer the most robust class visit options.

The information session and campus tour takes a total of two hours. As such, if you choose the 9 a.m. information session, please do not select a class visit option between 9-11 a.m. Likewise, if you choose the 1 p.m. information session and 2 p.m. campus tour, be sure to choose a class visit option that will not create a conflict.

Overnight Stays

Seniors in high school are welcome to stay overnight with a current student in one of our residence halls during the academic year. All overnight requests must be made with 10 business days advance notice. Prospective students are limited to staying one night and may do so either the night before their visit or the night of their visit, depending on availability. Please be sure to make note of the night you are selecting.

If you register for an overnight stay with a current student, we will reach out to you by email with more information. Depending on when you arrive, check-in for overnight stays will take place in the Office of Admission at 4:15 p.m., or directly with your host at the Joe Rosenfield '25 Center if you arrive to campus after 5 p.m.

Overnight Policy and Release Form

As a campus guest, Grinnell College requires that you assume the same responsibility for your actions that Grinnell students have assumed. I am aware that although Grinnell College has agreed to host me overnight, neither the Office of Admission nor any other office or personnel of Grinnell College will be supervising me during my on‐campus stay. Visiting students, like enrolled students, are responsible for their behavior and are expected to behave as adults within the expectations described below.

I am aware that participants in on campus visitation programs are required to abide by Federal and State laws, local municipal codes and the policies governing student conduct that all students enrolled at Grinnell College are expected to follow. I acknowledge that Iowa law prohibits the consumption of alcoholic beverages by persons under 21 years of age as well as all use of controlled substances.

Further, I understand that the Office of Admission will consider any negative behavior during my campus stay when reviewing my application for admission. My violation of any of the above laws, regulations, codes and/or any damage to Grinnell property may impact my application to Grinnell College.

Residence Hall Rooms

The residence halls at Grinnell College foster a sense of community, and provide a safe, healthy, and inclusive living and learning environment which complements the academic experience. As such, residence halls at the College are largely gender-inclusive communities, those in which any student can live with another student regardless of gender identity and/or expression. Additionally, we have gender-specific communities on our campus that offer a living space reserved only for students that self-identify with the same gender. We offer complementary roundtrip shuttle transportation to the Des Moines airport for students who are traveling alone to Grinnell and are planning an overnight stay on campus. Do you need airport shuttle transportation?

If you selected yes above, please contact the Office of Admission with your flight information at admission@grinnell.edu. Overnight visits are available Sunday through Thursday nights during the academic year when classes are in session, excluding mid-semester and final testing weeks. Prospective students are expected to arrive on campus before 9:00 p.m. Monday – Thursday, and not before 4:00 p.m. Sunday, unless extraordinary circumstances require otherwise. Transportation

Visiting families arriving at the Des Moines International Airport (DSM) should plan to rent a car to travel to and from Grinnell College. Taxis, ride share services (Uber, Lyft), and public transportation are not available once you are in Grinnell or to get you from Grinnell back to the airport. Grinnell College does not provide shuttle services within Grinnell or to and from the airport for visiting families.
